Elena Kessi, President of Aquafin, Inc., will be speaking about moisture mitigation. Moisture related flooring failures are an expensive problem for building owners, installers and manufacturers. This presentation provides attendees with an overview that starts at the root of the problem: “Why do floors fail?” It focuses on the following key learning objectives:

  • Examples of common flooring failures due to excess moisture
  • How to properly test concrete substrates before flooring is installed
  • Product technologies to prevent flooring failures


Elena Kessi is the President for Aquafin, Inc., a manufacturer of concrete repair mortars, waterproof coatings, moisture mitigation systems, self-leveling underlayments and other building product systems. Elena has a business degree from the University of Maryland and has been in the construction industry for more than 15 years. Her experience has been focused on product technology which prevents and repairs concrete damaged by water and moisture. She is an active member of various professional industry organizations including ICRI. Elena is the 2018 Secretary of ICRI. In addition to her Board responsibilities she serves as Vice-Chair of the ICRI Project Awards committee and is involved with technical committees including 710-B Moisture-Related Issues with Concrete Floor Finishes and 710-E Grouting. Elena also spent nearly 10 years serving on the board of her local Metro New York Chapter, holding various positions including President.
